CATTLE SHOW CUM EXHIBITION |

Background In 10th FYP document, Cattle show cum Exhibition is one of the activities to be taken up. Based on this Livestock sector has planned and budgeted for the fiscal year 2009-2010. Among many tools, cattle show cum exhibition is considered to be main tool for creation of awareness for Livestock program development. Though we publicize the importance of livestock rearing as main tool for fast household income generation, it takes couple of years to adapt the programs. Whatsoever, through this program rural community will know the importance of management and pasture development for any kind of livestock rearing. Towards this end, Livestock sector has organized a day long Cattle show cum Exhibition on 30th December 2009 at Beteni Community School under Patshaling geog. Objectives
• Create awareness on Jersey breed improvement • Native breed conservation • Jersey cross bull encouragement for draft power • Proper pasture development • Proper feeding and management • Awareness on Zonootic diseases • Awareness on Artificial Insemination program • Awareness on organic farming • Awareness on STI diseases The Cattle show cum Exhibition was organized on 30th December 2009 at Beteni Community School under Patshaling Geog. The day was graced by Dasho Dzongrab as Chief Guest, sector heads, community leaders and public of Lower and Upper Beteni and Thangray publics. We have invited other special guests from Rural Livestock Development Centre, Gelephu. The cattle show cum exhibition was inaugurated with Merchang ceremony followed by welcome speech by the Dzongkhag Livestock Officer. In his opening remarks, he has highlighted the importance of the day and its objectives of organizing such show. He stressed that the objectives of this program is to; create awareness on Jersey breed improvement, conserve the local breed (siri), awareness on zonootic diseases and development of pasture and management aspects. Right after the opening remarks made by Dzongkhag Livestock Officer, the Dasho Dzongrab, and Chief Guest for the day addressed key note to the gathering. He also emphasized more on importance of this program and its aims and objectives. There were around 121 numbers of cattle gathered on the ground to celebrate the show. The cattle were categorized into six categories; namely Jersey milking, Jersey heifer, Jersey calf, Local milking, Jersey bull and dry cow. Among those cattle gathered, judges have selected 7 best from each category. These seven from each category has taken in the judge ring. From this again, best three from each category have been selected as winners. The prizes were awarded to the winners from each category. The sector has identified 4 judges; Karma Tseten, RVL, Gelephu, Changlu, RVL, Gelephu, Pema Dorji, DHO and Jai Narayan Sharma, LEC Dunglagang. The winners were awarded cash prizes by Chief Guest Dasho Dzongrab. Besides the winners, all cattle brought to the show have given participation prize. Towards the end of the program, Gup of Patshaling thanked the Dasho Dzongrab for gracing the day as Chief Guest and other sector heads for their participation. He also thanked Livestock sector for organizing cattle show cum exhibition in his geog. lastly he thanked general public for their cooperation and active participation through the day and making the day a successful one. |
